“How We Do Anything is How We Do Everything”
What a start to the new year! I Hope all you are doing and working towards is as fruitful as mine is and has been. I’ve been hitting every single day hard and it’s paying off; not to say that I haven’t been doing so for the past number of years, but it just FEELS different this year. Can you relate? I truly hope so.
The first two weeks of the year have been a whirlwind of fast paced days, short nights filled with prepping for the following day and week, and early morning workouts (nothing new there). It’s extremely important to me to stay focused on the tasks at hand, but while also maintaining a focus on the bigger picture of my life that takes me five, 10, 15, and even 20 years on. To that end and as you may have seen, I bought a year-at-a-glance calendar that allows me to literally plan everything for the entire year. Any further out than that it’s not going to get scheduled just yet, but guaranteed it’s already written down with a date range and specific intentions to achieve it/them.
The Des Moines Fire Department 98th Recruit Fire Academy has not disappointed! Week one in the books, only 60 more weeks to go (rough estimate). Without getting into the minute details, we’ve been getting after it every day and the expectations are that we will all give 100% every day we show up there no matter what. Week two begins on Tuesday due to Monday being MLK DAY (click and watch one of my favorite speeches he ever gave: What is in your life’s blueprint?), so I’m spending some extra time this weekend going over material, studying, preparing for the upcoming week of 100% effort, and spending some extra time with my family.
My training has been on point! I’m so grateful that over the past decade I’ve been slowly working hard at developing the discipline, willpower, and mentality it takes to wake up before the world and get after it. This isn’t just a thing that’s happened recently, but I’ve been doing this as I mentioned for quite some time — even during the periods of time in my life where it wasn’t in me to do so, I found a way to make it happen and I’m grateful for that resilience and perseverance. More to the point, I’m currently training for a photoshoot at the end of March, an ultra-marathon (50k) at the beginning of April, and all while full-time a the fire academy. The good thing about all this is that we do PT every day at 0700, so before that I wake up at 0330 and get to the gym by around 0415 for my bodybuilding/physique work. PT at 0700, work until around 1530, pick up kids, then home to do my running which is currently on the treadmill due to the literally freezing cold temps outside. At the moment, I’m working on a lot of specific things of which I’ll break down in more detail in the following weeks so be sure to stay tuned in right here.
Listen, if it were easy everyone would do it. You’ve heard this time and time again, but honestly, it’s so damn true. Who TF wants to wake up at 0330 to workout, PT after that, work a full day, then run in the evening? No one…aside from the crazy ones…or at least to the average member of society we are crazy. To me, I am on fire: Mind, Body, Heart, and Soul, and I’m willing to do literally whatever it takes to get myself and my family to where I want us to be. I am not on this journey alone, none of us are — it’s just up to us to find the people in our lives who we can truly rely on. For me, it’s my wife and kids, my family, and a very select few people whom I call my friends. We’re all on this journey together and we will all fight for one another on a daily basis no matter what. This is my current attitude; this is my current mindset; this is my current disposition and I will continue to live, think, and BE this way for the foreseeable future.
I am still running my company, Anchor Kids Organization and we are STILL doing what is necessary to grow into a nationally recognized program that WILL make an impact in the lives of kids and families all around the world in due time. At the moment, we are focused on hiring coaches to deliver our programming at schools around the Des Moines Metropolitan area while I am focused on growth into new districts around Iowa. In three years time we WILL be a regional program with schools all around the midwest. What’s more is that we are currently working on a partnership with another kids program — BUT…you’re gunna have to stick around and find out who and what the deets are on this. You know the drill, stay tuned.
It’s officially official, The Dillon Burns Method has been contracted for it’s first paid public speaking gig in early April 2022! I’ll be in front of 200+ people at Botanical Gardens on April 6th, 2022 as the keynote speaker. More details to follow.
Uncommon Challenge Series: Photoshoot end of March. Telling my story on video for a photographer’s creative series end of March. Ultra Marathon at Zion National Park in Utah on April 9th, 2022. No more challenges have been assigned dates yet, but I will update as soon as I have them created for the remaining quarters of this year.

Closing the door on this weeks blog, I want to leave you with two sentiments that I hope will help to guide you through the upcoming week.
HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING. Get busy doing the work of your life. This is anything from taking ownership of the dishes that fill your sink every night to fulfilling your lifelong goals of making a million dollars or showing up for someone who needs you and your energy in their life. HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING.
Acta non verba: Deeds, not words. ‘Nuff said. Don’t talk about it. Be about it.
Get busy living.
